To be guardians in our families - like St. Joseph: Guardian of the Redeemer - requires us to remain alert to danger and ready to defend.
"FEMA asks, 'Are you ready?' and the Boy Scouts say, 'Be prepared.' If a storm is coming you seek shelter." Bishop Finn noted, "But what are you doing to prepare and protect yourself and your families from the spiritual troubles and trials that test our faith and values?"
"An interior life of prayer fortifies us to remain watchful and ready to act; it will strengthen our faith and keep us focused when tough days come. Spending time with God every day opens our eyes and attunes our ears to be like St. Joseph, ready to be generous in answering the Lord's call."
Bishop Finn continued, "Furthermore St. Joseph teaches us how to sanctify our daily work, to be just and upright, and serve in our families and homes."
Bishop Emeritus of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Most Reverend Robert Finn was bishop in the Diocese of Kansas City-St Joseph from 2004-2015, and is now chaplain to the School Sisters of Christ the King in Lincoln. Ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Louis in 1979, he also served for many years as a high school teacher and administrator.
